The No-Nonsense Guide to Using the Right Colors

"I'll believe it when I see it."

We've heard the phrase a thousand times. And there's good reason for it.

Research reveals that 93% of our decision-making derives from how something looks. And of that group, 85% say that "color" is the reason they bought a particular product over a competing product (Yes, we provide sources below. But we're 97.23% sure you should believe us anyways).

Though one should keep landing pages simple, there's proven guidelines that you should not stray from.

Instead of babbling about the psychological effects color, we decided to provide an actionable guide with examples that you can put into practice immediately. If you don't handle the design of your website, then by all means feel free to save this chart for future use

Here's a link to download the chart.

The No-Nonsense Guide to Using the Right Colors:

Enjoy!

Great!
But one thing i miss: i'd love to have additional details on what colors to use for the site background. Although that chart can be used to point one in the rigt direction i'd absolutely love a more comprehensive guide. Like "when you use 'blue' as your main color (header, footer) than you should use 'colorname' or 'colorname' as background (margins) because we tested the hell out of it and this converts best." or something like that. You geht the idea.
But a great start with examples and i'm eagerly waiting for new stuff from you guys. Thanks a lot.

This is an awesome post. A total pleasure to see it laid out visually, and with such quality/care. Thanks!

I experimented with color extensively on my site, and found that the combination of blue, with orange buy buttons, worked best. On my site http://hcgezdrops.com my conversion went up over 40% over the previous color scheme that included a darker blue with red buy buttons.

BTW, I'll NEVER do red buy buttons again. Red may mean energy, bloodrush, etc., but it also means STOP! to a lot of people!

I love it! I'm going to have to look at all of my sites to make sure I'm putting out the colors that I want my readers (and buyers) to know. In my real estate market - I'm definitely glad to be using blue. At first I just scanned the colors, but when I went back and read the content, it was great! I especially liked the part about not using RED for free offers. Oh my! I do that all the time. Thanks!

Hello from Montana;
What great information. My logo is the artichoke and so most of my websites are done in shades of green. Good to know that it invokes feelings of stability and calm.

We are building a community of kind, thoughtful people who want respect for all. Glad that the colors chosen will resonate with the right people.

Crown Royal is blue but it's in the purple box. Was this a test? Is the regal purple to be associated with the crown of royalty or did Andy slurp too much from his Viking hat and just misplace the graphic? Is there any of the Crown left?

Where some go wrong is in the 'mixing' of colors on their sites - purple and green anyone?

We began building a new client site yesterday. We left the color choices undecided and thanks to this chart, know what will display their products the best. Synchronicity Rocks! Loved being in Stompernet when you were there but watching you create great products like Kajabi, Video Boss and sharing really valuable information on your blog is the best. Thanks, Andy!

WOW! This could not have come at a better time! I'm writing a marketing book for a client and he wants me to explain "good usage of colors" - I'm not a traditional "branding" person so I had no idea what to put here -this will make my book rock even more. Thanks a ton!!!

Isn't this somewhat culturally based? I know pink for girls is a very Western pairing, not sure about the others although red means luck in quite a few places...
